0Don't take these settings as any sort of qualified advice it is just how I setup the OBS without any effort though I did learn if you record with OBS that selecting the option in Recording / Format: mp4, if you crash OBS then you lose the mp4 video file but if you select to record in mkv format and drop or crash OBS then the file will just stop recording and your video up to that point will be preserved. I think it is mkv might be mov.
If you do use mkv and it won't play on your computer because you don't have the codec you can purchase videoproc I made a video about it.
