Wii Music - Part 2 - Instrument Improv And Some Basic Music Theory
Wii Music Gameplay! In this episode I explain the basics of Instrument Improv mode and some music theory knowledge too! This game is all about rhythmic phrasing. It is the most important part of playing an instrument is the rhythm. This game takes the phrases you input rhythmically and applies it to the instrument you are playing. Every instrument has its own unique qualities and sounds good with certain phrases, as well as certain notes.
In this episode we talk about some basic music theory, chords, chord progressions, scales, and rhythmic phrasing. We play the acoustic guitar in Instrument Improv mode, and go over all the different controls. I restrict myself from using certain things, and jam a bit with just playing notes, then add the extra controls and talk about why they are unique. The extra things like playing chords instead of one note, muting notes, note selection, vibrato, and note bending/sliding are all embellishments on top of the rhythmic phrasing. Those unique qualities are beyond the tone and also beyond the rhythm, existing as a fusion of the two. That is why they are here in the game, because those things are unique to the instrument and help give that instrument its identity. I hope this makes sense, and enjoy! :D

Wii Music is a very special game developed by Nintendo for the Wii. This game tries to capture the feeling of playing a real instrument. In this video I'm playing Wii Music on PC with the Dolphin Emulator. Go to Part 19 for the beginning of the videos using the Wii U. The game plays much better on console.
