Wild Gate Review: An Unbalanced Mess of a Multiplayer Game
Wild Gate is so close to being great. It does manage to distill the Sea of Thieves experience into a digestible match-based formula. However, the act of boarding a ship is very unbalanced and makes most engagements devolve into an arena shooter slap fight where the ship layouts are the map. The thing is, the gunplay in Wild Gate isn't strong enough to support that playstyle becoming the focus.
The game is at its best when ships are engaging each other with weaponry at a distance, with the occasional boarder taking on a cheeky strategic mission. Not when it becomes an FPS gun battle of who sees who first.
