[Windows] Managing devices connected to your PC becomes easier | Device metadata mechanism change...
The mechanism of device metadata in Windows will change.
In a word, it means that "management of devices connected to a PC will be simplified."
Previously, when hardware was connected to Windows, the device's hardware ID (such as devnode information) was used to refer to an XML-formatted information file to obtain "device metadata" such as the name, icon, and description, and displayed it on the user interface.
However, devices of the same type (such as keyboards and mice) were displayed with the same icon and there was a lack of consistency, making it a little difficult to manage.
Therefore, on May 6, 2025 (US time), Microsoft announced that it will deprecate the "device metadata" that has been used in Windows until now and use "Driver Package Container Metadata" instead.
This video explains the new method "Driver Package Container Metadata" in an easy-to-understand manner even for PC novices.
Please take a look.
