The Witcher 3 has been delayed for the second time, and is now set to release on May 19th next year. This news comes after the developer, CD Projekt Red, promised that it wouldn’t be pushed back any further, but apparently the delay is necessary for the studio to meet their high ambitions. The studio said:

“The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.”

Funnily enough, though, when the game was first delayed, CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski said:

“This is not our first game; we are not newbies. It's not like 'hey we are delaying and we'll keep on delaying'.”

Or is it? Back in October, they addressed this pretty defensively, saying:

“If you have any doubts about Wild Hunt’s quality, have a look at the 35-minute gameplay video we published some time ago, or check out gamers' reactions to our public previews at Gamescom, San Diego Comic Con, and E3 and decide for yourself.”

I usually find delays just make me more excited for certain games because, as CD Projekt Red have addressed, it usually means they’re taking the quality seriously. But, at the same time, I feel like it would be much, much better if they put off announcing release dates at all until they’re absolutely certain, but maybe that would hurt marketing. Either way, the Witcher 3 really does look incredible, and you can find gameplay videos publicly available on their official YouTube channel.
