WITWI - Against the Storm, a unique RNG based city builder (Ultrawide Impressions)
Against the storm is by far one of the most unique city builders that I have every played. It is great in short bursts, but it can get repetitive due to the limited variety of the current quests.

The main premise of the game is that you have to complete a set of quests to increase your reputation to the maximum in order to defeat the current stage you are on. Working against you is the queen's impatience, growing the more time passes without having completed any quests. The quests grow in difficulty as the time progresses.
What also works against you is the forest. The more you cut trees down and the lower the queen's impatience is, the angrier the forest gets, increasing the difficulty multiplier.
The gameplay revolves around you starting a new base every time you complete the quests of a previous base. Once you hit 6 bases, the storm comes and wipes everything out. You must protect the kingdom, AKA the smouldering city, which is also what provides you with upgrades you can carry with you to enhance your gameplay experience, as well as battle higher difficulties.
While you build your base, you will encounter glades that you have to access by cutting your own path through the trees to free a waypoint towards it. The glades range from easy, dangerous, and forbidden. Each easy glade has a chance of including an easy encounter. Dangerous and forbidden glades always have encounters that range in difficulty. The forest will also get angrier the more glades you cut through, especially the two higher difficulty ones.
You must balance production of goods to progress during the mission, as well as satisfying each of the 4 races (you always only play with 3) in order to prevent your villagers from abandoning the camp. Each race has their own sets of requirements to fulfil. Each race also excels in a certain type of labour, and have increased satisfaction when working on select resource production buildings as well. It is your job to balance those and figure out the best way forward.
Overall, AtS is one of the most unique city builders that I have ever played. My only complaint with it is that after the 9 or so hours that I played it, I had to stop because the missions were getting repetitive and predictable. I suspect that the developers will enhance that part of the experience since this is still very much in early access. I am looking forward to checking out this game when it fully releases for another follow up video.
