Wiz 'n' Liz Game Sample - Genesis/MD
Gameplay starts at 4:32
Wiz 'n' Liz: The Frantic Wabbit Wescue (The game's whole title) is a fun little gem published by Psygnosis in 1993 for both the Sega Genesis and Amiga platforms. It is a "fluffy" game by Martyn R Chudley & Mike Waterworth (as well as few others) where you run around levels collecting spell letters and saving cuddly wabbits before you run out of time and enter the void...well, I don't know where you go exactly, but it costs you a life to go there, lol.
I spoke about Psygnosis not too long ago (G-Police, etc, etc.) and this is another one of the games that they published that really makes me want to see a revamp...NOT a sequel or something. Just a little graphics update and music maybe with extra levels and such...a good revamp though *Thinks of Streets of Rage Remake*. I remember now; I was mentioning Psygnosis in my "No Escape" video just a little while ago. Anyway, the point of the game is to run as fast as Sonic the Hedgehog to collect wabbits and spell letters as well as other goodies. You can get "BONUS" letters that take you to nice bonus levels where you get loads of points, extra time, etc.
The visuals are colorful and the animations are pretty nice. What I also like is that the game has cameos of other Psygnosis games (my favorite cameo being the "Puggsy" one). Even on startup, there is a cameo of the "armored body" from an obscure game known as "Fatal Rewind" (more people may know of it as "The Killing Game Show"). I used to not like FR so much, but I played it a few months back and it didn't seem as bad as I remember; I may play that eventually...moving along. The game has some neat music too.
Gameplay wise, you can collect a lot of items and mix fruits and such to create spells (which have lots of wacky effects, as you'll see in my video...one even gives you a fake game over). I only have one gripe with this game and that gripe is...that the game does rely a little bit on luck at some portions of the game. For instance, there is a shop where you can buy stuff (including time, which is super helpful), but it isn't always open. You can open it by mixing items and creating a spell that will open it (the same goes for a hint shop). If the shop were there from the start (which it can be with codes I think), I'd have nothing to gripe about at all. However, you can get extra time on the stages (and 30 seconds, if you get the super time icon when you time reaches ten seconds or lower) so the game is still fun, but harder until you get that shop open.
