Silver Surfer Game Sample - NES/FC
Silver Surfer is a difficult (but certainly playable) shooter developed by Software Creations and published by the obscure company known as Arcadia Systems (a subsidiary of "Mastertronic"). As many know, Silver Surfer is a Marvel Comics hero and this game deals with him battling various comic book adversaries through multiple levels (with the levels being broken down into various "sections"). Given who Silver Surfer is, I guess a shooter wasn't a bad idea (vertical and horizontal levels helps too), but the consensus at the time (and today even) is that the game was/is far too difficult.
The game is indeed hard (much like Gradius can be) because once you lose your power-ups, the game can seem too difficult at times. It is a game that requires multiple plays to understand the levels and make sound judgment in how to use your bombs and the like. Once you understand the levels though, the game is fairly reasonable (there are a lot of power-ups on the stages, if you know where to shoot). My general gripes would be that the game isn't exactly a looker for late 1990 and there is a lack of various in how you can combat the enemies (you get a standard shot that you can make stronger, options that fire alongside you and bombs...that's it). There are certainly better shooters out there that kinda defeat the purpose of playing this game....buuuuuuuuut......
It is worth mentioning that this game has some pretty awesome music.
