The body of a soldier killed in Afghanistan has been repatriated to the UK.

Warrant Officer Class 2 Ian Fisher from 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment died in a suicide bomb blast in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province on Tuesday 5th November.

He was taking part in a two-day operation to disrupt insurgent activity when a meeting with Afghan National Security forces was targeted by a suicide attacker.

WO2 Fisher was evacuated by air to the military hospital at Camp Bastion, where it was confirmed that he had been killed in action.

The aeroplane carrying his body landed at RAF Brize Norton where a private service was held for his family.

The cortege passed through the memorial gardens at Carterton where people lined the route to pay their respects.

WO2 Fisher leaves behind his wife, Emma; 2 sons, James, aged 7, and William, aged 5; his sister Lynda, and his parents, Simon and Helen.
