In Cyprus, they say that if you scratch the soil you will find traces of the past.

The island has been a crossroad for all kinds of civilisations, including Neolithic sites, Roman villas and Byzantine churches.

Near RAF Akrotiri, teams have been digging up the latest discovery.

They are working on a site dating back to the 7th Century, and have uncovered the remains of an ancient church.

The area is being excavated by The Department of Antiquities and now members of the Defence Archaeological Group have joined in to help.
