Wolfenstein 3D: "AutoWolf" Player Bot
This thing is fucking scary to watch.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/autowolf/
"This is a port based on Moritz "Ripper" Kroll's WOLF4SDL port for Wolfenstein 3D, a game developed 1992 by id Software and published by Apogee. The source code to the game has been released as GPL.
The port implements a "bot" for this game, where the player is controlled by the computer, in the attempt to solve every level autonomously."
In theory, it should be able to pass any map with 100% success (level bugs such as getting locked in a maze aside), albeit in a strange and what may look to be inefficient manner (as seen near the end of the first level here).
But does it render human players as obsolete relics? Not quite, we're some way from having some sort of Terminator-style, 'Videogame Judgement Day' -- while there's no doubting that it does a superb job of eliminating anything and everything, it (understandably) goes around completing this task in a very robotic, calculated manner, and doesn't seem to strafe at all for any reason (not that strafing is a huge part of Wolfenstein 3D anyway).
So I think we're still safe to continue playing too, without potentially looking like a pack of fingerless retards. At least for now.
It's worth pointing out that recording this somewhat 'lessened' its effectiveness; you'll have to download the program yourself (requires original Wolf3D files) to see just how impressive it really is.
