You can reduce incoming damage from bots by making them miss most of their hits when you are above them.
It's also best to not stand still while above them, but also move above their heads tiny bit for better hitreg, because when enemies stand still, they tend to get "stuck" and ignore claw/bullet damage, except splash damage from explosives.
