Just want to stress that the finished product is way off. This is just a rough edit that I managed to get working tonight. Don't want to get anyone's hopes up too soon. And thanks for the 201 subs :)
TL:DR, gonna work on this every once in a while. Hoping it might be ready by the time I get up to File 10 in the playthrough. I believe the corporate term is 'synergy', or 'brand synergy' for bonus points.
Long-winded explanation below:
I've been chipping away at this idea for a while now. There's already a lot of cool edits of Dark Hero that were uploaded ages ago, but I've always wanted to make my own. I've been trying to match both vocals in pitch for a while, which is rough and not particularly fun. So I figured, why not use the female version vocals with the male version instrumental? At the very least, I won't feel like I'm plagiarising someone else's edit.

The vocals here were adjusted -0.91 semitones / -5.121% with Audacity's Change Pitch tool. I'm playing around with slightly different pitches (from -0.71 to -1) but this is the one I ended up looping and making a test edit with. Out of the tests, it sounded the best overall. The main vocal track for full edit will probably be slightly different, and will likely incorporate a few different variations in places to smooth things out.
Looping was actually (and still is) the worst part. The toughest part is keeping everything in sync. And I eventually need to add the part that's omitted here (the solo).
And yes, I've tried the inverse. Doesn't sound as bad as you'd think. Just had to adjust the pitch by +1 and it worked pretty well. Because of how I've looped the tracks and kept them in sync, I could always do the same for Male Vocals Vs Female Instrumental, but trust me when I say this version sounds better.
And I'll somehow have to edit a video for it too. Smeg.
