FILMMAKER BIO:

Alanah Rafferty, Brooklyn, NY

- How long have you been making movies?
I started as an actor when I was 14, and started behind the camera when I was 20.

- Favorite horror film?
Midsommar

- Location where short was filmed?
Manhattan and Brooklyn, NY

- Inspiration for the short?
I was in the doctor's office reading a Nat Geo article on animals that make animals kill themselves to use their bodies as hosts for eggs or themselves. I wondered how that would happen in the human species, and thought social media would be the way to do it.

- Who is a filmmaker you admire?
I love how much about story and character Steve McQueen can show with just an image and barely any dialogue. I also love Guillermo del Toro and David Lynch, filmmakers who make very strange but very personal works.

- Why did you get into making horror movies?
I grew up watching Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments, and saw how the filmmakers, actors and film critics took the genre so seriously. When I started watching them as a teen, I loved how visceral watching them was.

- If you could remake any horror movie, which would it be?
It's a tie between Argento's Suspiria and The Masque of the Red Death. I love how colorful they are and how they both approach the idea of who holds power and why.

- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
I'm currently developing the feature version of Mutiny, as well as two other feature films that have shades of Del Toro and Argento in them.

- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
I love how there's WOD shows there's no one way to make a horror film. There's films about a crazed salesman, demon babies, even a post Brexit dystopia.

----------------------

Alyssa Standen - Ohio, United States

- How long have you been making movies?
Probably since I was 7 or 8, I used a Barbie VHS camera back then to make my own copy of "the tape" in The Ring.

- Favorite horror film?
It was Carnival of Souls, and then Midsommar smacked me across the face. It's a masterpiece.

- Location where short was filmed?
In my hometown, I used the city hall's abandoned stage upstairs.

- Inspiration for the short?
Catharsis.

- Who is a filmmaker you admire?
Catherine Hardwicke, Mary Lambert, I could go on forever...

- Why did you get into making horror movies?
I wasn't allowed to watch them growing up, which caused a full blown obsession and lots of stolen library DVDs.

- If you could remake any horror movie, which would it be?
Child's Play! I had a phobia of Chucky that lasted half of my life. The nightmares were so violent and intense, I was paralyzed once I finally woke up.

- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
I'm in pre-production for my next short film Trashy. I'm in love with it, it's super f****d up.

- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
For a brand like Bloody-Disgusting to give opportunities to people who are new to the community, that's priceless.
