The coming of rinderpest to Africa.
* Rinderpest, a fast spreading disease of cattle plague, arrived in East Africa in the late 1880 and within five years, spread like a forest fire to reach the Cape of Crood Hope (Africas Southernmost tip) killing \( 90 \% \) of the cattle population. * It was carried by infected cattle imported from British Asia to feed the Italian soldiers invading Eritrea in East Africa. * The loss of cattle had a terrifying impact on peoples livelihoods and the local economy.
