WURM: Journey to the Center of the Earth Complete Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A beginning to end playthrough of Asmik's 1991 NES game, WURM: Journey to the Center of the Earth, from http://www.nintendocomplete.com
WURM: Journey to the Center of the Earth is a game that's been tragically underlooked, and deserves a lot more recognition than it's accustomed to. Building off of the same multi-genre style of play featured in Golgo 13: Top Secret Mission (and not so coincidentally, the same man was behind a large portion of the creative development for both titles).
The gameplay, featuring shooter sections (horizontal and vertical), first-person RPG style fights, and platforming action, presents its mechanics in a way far more refined than Golgo 13 ever did, though the story's shift from international crime to environmental awareness might put some people off.
A great game, overall. It's riddled with niggling flaws, it's easy, and the controls are awkward, but the pieces (fantastic music, good graphics, neat story) come together in such a way that make it much more than the sum of its parts. It really is too bad that WURM was buried under release delays, allowing it to get crushed under the launch excitement of the SNES.
