Like some of the titles we review, The Last Roman Village is still in production, and about 4 weeks out at this point so changes are possible. I didn't really get the gist of the design until the end of the video, but could tell it wasn't exactly my cup of tea by then anyway. There's a patience required of the casual game play when dealing with the delays of enemy waves and construction. Those incremental time chunks are familiar for the genre but usually incorporated as progress limitations with regard to the other tasks you're meant to focus on. Here they represent a lot of waiting for a game existing in the defense genre, one so inherently about the quick repelling of enemies and triggering that addiction mechanism in your brain to just keep going. It's not exactly a style that flows well with the long horizontal map for buildings as you presumably try to evaluate attack waves later on (and early on hunting them down for something of interest with long walks back and forth). Your village grows with activity while at the same time you're largely blocked from observing the growth beyond one walking distance at a time so it fails to gather the appeal of at least seeing this grand growth design either.
