The WWVH audio signal announcement was placed into the NIST time scale to provide a warning in 2018 that congressional action was being considered to cut funding that would have shut off the HF broadcasts of WWV and WWVH while leaving WWVB intact. This idea was short lived due to public pressure mounting given the fact WWV was to celibate 100 years of holding the call sign in October 2019.
