X: Beyond the Frontier - Part 2 - Ain't Played in Ages
X: Beyond the Frontier, is one of the many attempts to recapture the essence of the great Elite. It succeeds to some extent, in terms of portraying a universe thick in atmosphere and has a fairly intuitive and interesting trade system.
Since these videos I've been playing it some more off camera and I'm quite enjoying it. The simplicity of the formula makes for a very pure and free experience.
I prefer it to the sequel X2 which seemed to overcomplicate things and throw in a lot of mandatory plot stuff that distracted from what made the original game good. I could never get very far because I felt like I was in a universe designed for freedom and yet I was held in chains. I'm hoping that X3 will be the best of the series so far.
This game, along with the whole X trilogy was very generously gifted to me by InsertDiskB. Thanks again! :D
"Ain't Played In Ages" is a live narrated walkthrough / let's play series of various games that I haven't played for many years. Usually I'm playing them in the video for the first time since I was a kid. That's a long time ago.
Intro music is from the classic "cracktro" by Unit A. The full version can be heard and seen here:
