Opening data vaults are now needed for Knowledge points that count towards your Custom Game budget in X4 Foundations 4.1, so there is a very good reason to get them all besides the Historian Steam achievement. They also give out loot like a lockbox so a good idea to revisit them in a new game even after you've opened them all.
