X4: Foundations with DLC | Ep. 07 | The Tide is strong in Avarice | Beginner Playthrough
X4: Foundations is the latest entry in the X series. It is a huge spacegame with stories, quests, a simulated economy and much more. You not only fly your own ship, but buy and build ships and even stations and recruit people that you can then send, for example, on mining missions. I am finally doing a playthrough of this massive sandbox spacegame. I am super excited to start a beginner playthrough and I would like to invite you to leave feedback and give advice in the comments. I play with all currently available DLC and do the Terran Cadet start.
The X-series is developed by Egosoft. Egosoft was founded in 1988 by Bernd Lehahn, originally under the name Ego Software. It is the oldest still active video game developer in Germany and the CEO is founder Bernd Lehahn. Talking about passion projects! The X series started in 1999 with X: Beyond the Frontier and the expanstion X-Tension in 2000. In 2003, X2: The Threat was released, followed by X3: Reunion in 2005 and the expansions Terran Conflicht (2008), Albion Prelude (2011) and Farnham's Legacy (2021). X Rebirth (2013) took a slightly different approach and had two DLC, The Taladi Outpoost (2014) and Home of Light (2016). A VR Edition was published in 2017. The current entry X4: Foundations was released in 2018. So far there are four DLC: Split Vendetta (2020), Cradle of Humanity (2021), Tides of Avarice (2022) and Kingdom End (2023). The announcement of the new DLC Timelines last December actually brought the series back on my radar. The DLC is supposed to be released in 2024.
