Xbox Series S Storage Strategies Without Buying Seagate Expansion Card: COPY To SSD DON’T MOVE!
With the new Battlefield & COD games just around the corner, in this video I discuss the practicalities of copying (don't move!) Series S / X enhanced game from your internal SSD to an external drive (SSD or HDD) to make space for new games.
The copy / move times do seem to vary greatly. The first time I tried to move MS Flight Simulator from my Internal to External storage, it took 73 mins for 137gb. It only took 10 minutes to move it back, with a couple of minutes to install the game.
However, when I COPIED Flight Sim from Internal to External Drives, it was done in about 10 minutes.
COD Black Ops Cold War took 19 minutes to COPY from my internal storage to my external drive, and 10 minutes to copy back.
I was concerned whether S / X enhanced games held on external storage would update (as they would on internal) so I copied Enlisted (which I haven't played in a couple of months) back to my internal drive, and it didn't require an update, so it looks like stored games still get updates, but results may vary.
In conclusion, it does appear viable to keep copies of your enhanced games on your external storage so you can quickly make space on your internal drive by deleting games off it, meaning you don't necessarily have to buy the expensive Seagate 1TB Xbox S / X Expansion Card.
