Xbox's Retro Classics Are Stream-Only... and It Shows
5Today I jumped into the new Retro Classics collection on PC Game Pass and wow... what a letdown. On paper, it sounds like a dream: over 50 classic games like MechWarrior 2, Pitfall!, Kaboom!, and more. But here's the catch — they're all streamed.
The presentation is slick and the lineup is solid, but the actual experience is rough. Input lag, muddy visuals, and the constant reminder that you're not playing locally really drag things down. MechWarrior 2 especially deserves better.
It reminded me a lot of the Xbox 360 Game Room from back in the day, which offered a similar retro setup but felt more grounded. I actually covered that in a 2023 video here: • Xbox Game Room in 2023 – Just Seeing ...
If Xbox made these playable offline, this would be a killer addition. But as it stands, it's just a frustrating missed opportunity.
