XCOM: Enemy Within - Episode 3 (Hot Daze)
17910th of March, 2015:
Not long after returning from Operation Blinding Shroud we received an urgent message from three separate countries, apparently the aliens had launched a coordinated attack, and initial intel suggested their objective was abduction.
The difficult choice of whom to save fell to me, and knowing this, the countries each vied for XCOM's assistance by bidding various resources. It pains me to know that the cost of civilian lives can be so easily measured, but I had to make a choice, and so I sent the Skyranger to Germany in exchange for the promise of 4 new engineers to join Dr Shen's staff.
The operation was not flawless, but with only one soldier begin wounded (again, something I'm told he will recover from in about a week) I should feel happy, and yet all I can think of is the fact I left two countries to fend for themselves, knowing they could do little to protect their people from the aliens.
But sitting here, nursing a cup of tea while I wallow in my thoughts will not win this war, nor give any value to the sacrifice of those we did not save. Besides, I can hear cheering coming from mission control, I'd best head over there to find out what's going on.
