With the excellent record so far, I chose to have some of our newer recruits take part in Operation Patient Heat. However, when the troops reported the distant but distinct sound of mechanised footsteps I grew concerned that these aliens may have been better prepared for our interference than I had anticipated.

As has been the case in previous operations, we discovered Seekers early, but as has become the norm, they were eliminated swiftly and without incident. Alas, the same cannot be said of the Mechtoid, which landed an early attack on David Powell.

However, with the Mechtoid's destruction, and to everyone's great surprise, we found that the field had been cleared of hostile units. Is this a sign that the aliens are running out of footsoldiers to throw at us? We're all hopeful, but I suspect it's little more than wishful thinking. Never the less, the council appear to be extremely happy with our performance and the budget for this month reflects their growing hope that we may be able to push the Aliens back.

Now, given we have recently dealt both EXALT and the aliens a blow, I hope that we may have bought ourselves a little time. I know that Dr. Vahlen, for one, would greatly appreciate the opportunity to finish some more of her projects...
