XCOM: Enemy Within - Episode 48 (Red Thunder, conclusion!)
742nd of July, 2015:
Given the outstanding performance of our soldiers in recent missions, I made the decision to send one of our rookies out. Just one, this is a raid on a landed UFO, so the whole crew should be active in the area around the ship, so I felt it would be a needless risk to send too many untested troops... and well I didn't.
While I had assumed we had seen most of what the aliens it seems that there was at least one member of the Muton species we had yet to encounter. Some sort of close combat specialist. Unfortunately, after grazing the beast with one of his shots, our newest sniper, Johnny Mar was intimidated to a state of panic by the beast's howls. Thankfully for him, our veteran soldiers were at hand to execute the beast before it could attack, but I'll have to make sure he visits the base psychiatrist once back from the mission.
On top of that, it seems that the aliens may have been expecting our interference, as the crew of the craft included two Mechtoids. Much more fire power than I would have expected for this sort of craft.
Despite that, however, and although it has meant we've had to forego collection of Meld in favour of a safe advance, I remain confident that our soldiers are up to the task of clearing out the remaining hostile forces.
