When the alien reinforcement waves, which had seemed endless, finally began to slow I felt a surge of confidence, and I could see on the security feeds that the same was true of the troops locked in Delta Section.

However, as their confidence increased, mistakes started to happen. Small things, which could have snowballed into something much worse as both Leilith and Evelynn had driven forward, and for a time, found themselves cut off from the rest of the troops.

Thankfully, our mistakes were not heavily punished, and between Revocane and Cerberus, much of the remaining alien armour fell as quickly as they appeared. All but one, and it was that one that instilled the most fear. A sectopod remained, and had been shelling our troops with impunity for a time. I'll be honest, when I gave the orders for our troops to advance, I had grim visions of one of them becoming a martyr in their attempts to eliminate the mechanical monstrosity!

Of course, our troops, as always the do, exceeded all expectations and managed to bring down the final enemy, strongest of them all, with such practised ease that it took a few moments for it to sink in that they'd finally won. We'd finally eliminated the last of the alien invaders. But not without cost...

I've still not received the final report, but it's clear that while we've won the day, this was a pyrrhic victory. Bradford may be puffing his chest right now, and I may even agree that it's good for moral, all these speeches and posturing. But if the aliens had the ability to strike at us like this again... well, I doubt any of us would still be around to write a report about it.
