The abduction in Russia has been thwarted, providing a crucial showing against the invaders in a country they have nearly totally destabilized. Despite the populace remaining at a dangerous level of panic, the Kremlin has expressed their sincere thanks to the XCOM project, and is now favorably evaluating their continued involvement in the Council. The mission provided an important first look at the evolution of the alien forces; a new mechanized power armor has been deployed by the Sectoid creatures, drastically increasing their ability to attack directly and push against our positions. A sort of "psychic shield" functionality was observed as well, functioning similarly to the previously seen "mind meld" technique that Sectoids employ.

With July nearing its end, a Scout craft is detected at very low altitude in Canadian airspace by the satellite network. Holding back the interceptors, the craft is allowed to land in Canada's northernmost territories. Seeing the landing as an opportunity to both train lower ranked soldiers and secure an increased amount of resources, XCOM deploys Strike One to the site.
