Xenoblade X is daunting even for those who saw Shulk through his journey. So for everybody still early in their journey here is a primer of some of the most useful things to know to avoid pacing issues. (This is also all spoiler-free when it comes to the plot thanks to some carefully placed censors... but the ending is some good stuff and hypes me for the next game.)
