Recap: Around Shevat, the party learns much of the war that broke out 500 years ago between Shevat and Solaris, which resulted in both cities taking to the air and erecting barriers that each prevents the other from invading. They've been in a stalemate with each other ever since. Shevat wishes to continue fighting Solaris, but lacks the resources to make it happen. Fei is surprised to run into Yui. It turns out that she was originally from Shevat, and it's the location where the survivors of Lahan were brought after the town was destroyed. Fei also spots Wiseman on the way to the throne room.

Meeting with Queen Zephyr, they learn that Wiseman has been acting under her orders on the surface. She asks for their help in finally defeating Solaris and freeing mankind from their grip. Before they can give an answer, a sudden emergency report comes in of a lone Gebler soldier having somehow infiltrated Shevat and destroyed one of the Gate generators. Firefighting in the generator room is taking most of Shevat's resources, so the party joins Maria to go to the Gear hangar to confront the intruder.

After a trip through an emergency access shaft, they find that the invader is Dominia. She recognizes Maria, and tells her of her father Nikolai's activities in Solaris. Dominia claims that Nikolai had been working on a project to join a human brain directly with a Gear. The Wels were the testing ground for the experiment, and the successful ones that had returned after being sent to the surface were dismantled and turned into Gear control mechanisms. Siebzehn was the first of these Gears.

Jessie shows up and chases Dominia off, apparently having arrived in the Yggdrasil, which is somehow docked on Shevat now. Additional Solaris units are on the way to attack the remaining Gate generators after Dominia's initial sabotage. Shevat is unprepared to defend themselves, so the Yggdrasil crew takes the lead in coordinating the defense force. Maria is surprised to hear Nikolai's voice, emanating from the prototype gear Achtzehn, announcing the incoming invasion. A plan is hastily put together to repel the incoming forces.
