XENONAUTS #76: Annoy & Destroy, Got It!
The February Offensive - Part Two
By: "Screwby"
(Continued)
The hanger was a large structure that resembled much of what someone would think a hanger would look like except this one, and every Xenonauts hanger like it had two major differences. For one, these hangers were about a half-mile below the earth's surface meaning that the hanger had to have a semi-complicated system of lifts and tunnels that allowed the dropship to go off and do what dropships usually do. The second was that all of the armnaments located in this hanger were light-years, relatively speaking, ahead of anything else found in any hangers across the globe, Xenonauts or otherwise. This being the main base of the organization, it came with the perk of being able to bring all the guns to bare.
Meeting up with the rest of the crew they could make out some usual pre-flight mannerisms amongst them. Most of new guys simply watched Domonic Steele Jr. tinker around with the support "Schimitar" tank that would accompany them. To most of the new soldiers of the Xenonauts organization it was a welcomed sight to see any kind of support unit to go into battle with, but for most of the vets knew this vehicle was nothing more then an unreliable distraction. Its one saving grace was that it could reduce practically anything hoping to call itself matter into a pile of dust and fire.
Uzey gave a quick whistle across the group. Most knew not to turn around, however most of the rookies did. Uzey picked out the first to do so. It was a small young woman on her first mission as a Shield. In comparison to her, the shield could almost match the rookie in height and more then definitely out-weighed her.
The airman made a quick three paces in the rookie Shield's direction and began to read the name on the side of her helmet. He pretended to look her over, just like he knew she knew the old officers at the Egyptian training school did. On the end of his fake inspection he gave her an evil grin.
"James Collier? What kind of name is 'James' for a girl, anyways?"
The rookie showed signs of panic in her face and looked to Hamous for answers, but before she could find any she
found that Uzey was now blocking her sight of her CO. Just as she began to think about giving an answer to the question
Uzey interrupted with a pat to Collier's shoulder.
"Relax, I'm just messing with ya. Welcome to the war. Names Uzey and I'll be flying you into the glorious shit of things."
Uzey quickly offered his hand to the now relieved Collier, who took it with caution. The veterans of the group began to give a little chuckle to the scene while the rest of the group was debating on whether or not to join into the laughter or, like Collier just ride the awkward moment out. Many of these troops had only just been introduced to each other with barely any training beyond what their military background provided.
