"Mega Man X2" takes place 6 months after the defeat of Sigma, the leader of the Mavericks. Mega Man X resumes his duties and is now the new leader of the Maverick Hunters after the demise of Zero.
As the remaining Mavericks that follow Sigma continue to rebel, 3 new Mavericks are studying and analyzing X's abilities as they gather more information. These 3 Mavericks — named Agile, Serges, and Violen — call themselves the "X-Hunters" and are based in the middle of the North Pole. They have unleashed 8 new Mavericks across the area, and unbeknownst to X, they have also stolen the bodyparts of Zero.
Mega Man X has to begin a new mission to defeat the 8 Mavericks, stop the X-Hunters, reclaim Zero's bodyparts and hopefully restore back the life of his fallen best friend.
