"The Messenger" takes place in a world where everything is on the brink of extinction, save for a small group of exiled survivors in a island village. They train day and night in the ways of Ninjutsu, preparing for the subsequent arrival of the Western Hero who will protect them from the invasion of the Demon Army. The Demon Army has taken over the remains of the world, and are set to conquer the last village.
There is one bright spot: A young, ambitious Ninja who is tired of his clan's survivalist ways, is craving the adventure he is desperate for. After a vicious attack on his village, the Western Hero finally arrives. Realizing the Ninja is the best (and only available) one suited for the task, the Western Hero bestows upon him the Scroll to take to the top of the mountain. Whoever is in possession of this Scroll becomes the Messenger, destined to complete this quest.
The Ninja, with the Scroll in his possession, begins his adventure to fulfill his destiny as the new Messenger.
