Xiaomi’s high-performance prototype, the SU7 Ultra, has made waves in the automotive world by achieving a record-breaking lap time at Germany’s Nürburgring, a track renowned for testing the limits of top-tier performance vehicles. Stretching over 20.9 kilometers, the Nürburgring has challenged cars since 1927, and Xiaomi’s first attempt set the bar high. The SU7 Ultra completed the demanding circuit in an astounding six minutes and 46.874 seconds, officially earning the title of the fastest four-door car on the track.

Shortly after the record-breaking lap, Xiaomi’s chief executive, Lei Jun, took to the Chinese social media platform Weibo to share the achievement, describing the record as a bold step for Xiaomi’s automotive division. “As a new player in the car industry, Xiaomi has shown both its determination and courage by taking on the Nürburgring challenge with its debut car,” Lei said. This accomplishment underscores Xiaomi’s commitment to becoming a serious contender in the electric vehicle market.

Introduced this summer and expected to be priced at about 800,000 yuan (around $112,500), the SU7 Ultra boasts impressive specifications. The hypercar is powered by a three-motor, all-wheel-drive system delivering a remarkable 1,527 horsepower. It accelerates from zero to 62 miles per hour in just 1.97 seconds and reaches a top speed of 350 kilometers per hour. The vehicle is equipped with racing-standard carbon ceramic brake discs and advanced Bilstein EVO T1 tires, making it well-suited for high-speed handling and control.

Xiaomi’s initial model, the SU7, launched last December and has seen success in China, available in three versions—Standard, Pro, and Max—starting at $30,761. Surpassing production targets, Xiaomi is set to meet its goal of 100,000 units ahead of schedule. To keep up with rising demand, Xiaomi plans to complete an expansion of its electric vehicle manufacturing facility by mid-2025.

With the SU7 Ultra’s Nürburgring lap record, Xiaomi has established itself as a competitive player in the performance electric vehicle segment, signaling a promising future for the company’s ambitious automotive venture.
