Yamaha SHS-10 Keytar/Sholkey Part 1/2
0Hello everyone.
In the next 2 videos, I will be showing you the Yamaha SHS-10 keytar released in 1987.
The SHS-10 is shaped like a guitar, but instead of strings like an actual guitar, it has keyboard keys hence the keytar name, I've also heard that was also known in some places as a gui-board.
As well as a keytar, the SHS-10 is also known in Japan as a sholkey which is short for shoulder keyboard, using the strap that was supplied with it when it was new, you can strap it round your shoulder like a guitar, and play it over your shoulder hence the sholkey name.
The SHS-10 was available in 3 different colours, red, black, and grey as shown on this video.
The SHS-10 has a 2 operator FM (Frequecy Modulation) Synthesis with 25 built in sounds, FM Synthesis was made famous with the Yamaha DX7 released in 1983 which has a 6 operator FM Synthesis so it would sound a lot better than the SHS-10 which is only 2 operators.
I have been wanting to add this keytar as part of my collection for quite sometime, and now I've managaed to get one at a reasonable price as most of these I have seen online were quite expensive, this one was still pricey, but was the cheapest one I have found, so I decided to buy it.
The SHS-10 has a bigger brother, the SHS-200 released a year after the SHS-10, and I've managed to get my hands on an SHS-200 as well since I've also wanted to add that keytar as part of my collection too, the SHS-200 will be featured in my next keyboard showcase after the SHS-10.
On this video of the Yamaha SHS-10 keytar/sholkey, I will be doing a tutorial going through the different functions and features, then after that, I will be showing the 25 voices, on the second video I will be showing the 25 accompaniment styles and built in demonstration song.
