Yataimura Kingyosukui Arcade
The principle is simple: armed with a small landing net, you catch fish which you can then take home. But beware, the net is made of paper, so you have to be quick and skilful to catch fish without piercing it.
4 players can take place around the machine, the screen is in common but it's not possible to move your landing net to either end of it.
The other special feature of this machine is that it's a medal game. In other words, in order to play, you have to exchange your money for medals. With 500 yen (about 4 euros), you can get a hundred medals, for example.
The machine can be loaded with up to 50 tokens, and every time you press the button and use the net (successfully or not), a medal is swallowed up, so you have to be good enough to collect at least 2 per try to win.
Sitting in front of the big screen, magazine full of 50 coins (it's much more practical to stuff the machine at the beginning), directional ball in the left hand and the single big button for exhausting in the right.
The virtual pool is not only populated by classic goldfish, but also by telescopes, fan-tails, tadpoles, turtles, axolotls, crabs, gobies and catfish.
The basic goldfish only yield one token, but if you do the math, you have to use 1 to get 1 back, so it's useless.
The most profitable approach is to concentrate on fish that yield at least 2 or even 3 coins, such as catfish. Of course, it's not that simple, as the fish will bolt directly at your approach, and dexterity and speed are of paramount importance.
Some are easy to catch, others are more difficult, like the turtle, which runs away at high speed and is relatively rare anyway.
To make fishing easier, it's possible to get a bigger landing net in just a few seconds - and in gold, too! To get your hands on it, all you have to do is catch 3 sparkling golden fish that regularly wander in with the others.
They're pretty easy to catch, so you might as well make the most of it. With it, catching fish is really simple, and you're strongly advised to make sure you have it in your possession as often as possible, as it's the key to getting the maximum number of coins.
While the game doesn't feature “levels” as such, the environment in which the fish evolve changes regularly, preventing monotony.
Catching certain species, such as the tadpole or the turtle (but not only), takes you into a bonus mode in which you have to target a specific fish.
