The player controls a spacecraft that looks like a flying saucer seen from the side, with three long, movable legs. It can move all over the screen in all directions and shoot laser beams independently to the right, left, up or down; in the arcade game you have four separate buttons to shoot in each direction. You lose a life if you touch enemies or their bullets, or if you run out of fuel, which is consumed faster when you shoot.

The game consists of three distinct stages, which are also shown briefly in a demo when there are no matches in progress:

You have to hit eight “antibodies” (so called only in the original Italian flyer for Laser Battle; hereafter “meteorites”) placed in a circle in the center of the screen to free them from as many force fields, but only when the fields are the right color, and then avoid them when they move around the screen. Having freed all the antibodies, one must save a ship equal to one's captive in the center, after which it becomes possible to shoot the antibodies, all of which must be destroyed to complete the level.

You pass through a serpentine tunnel defended by two types of flying aliens, artillery emplacements and meteor passages. At the end of the path you rescue another spacecraft equal to your own.

You face a huge creature, a kind of pyramid with tentacles and one eye, positioned at the top of the screen. By hitting it from below you have to dig a hole through its body, which slowly regenerates in the meantime, until you reach the eye. Having done this the creature disappears and only the eye remains, which moves rapidly around the screen and must be dodged and hit several times until it is destroyed.

When the three stages are finished, you start again from the first, with increased difficulty.
