You Can Always Have An Impact, Even When you Have Nothing But Presence
This was the most challenging game of Kayle I've ever played, and yet it was also an incredible example of why I enjoy playing this champion. I finished this game 0/9/8, and I am by no means saying that I did not make any mistakes this game, or that I won this game singlehandedly.
No, this game is one where I had to find a way to do as much as I could while having the second-lowest gold for the entire match. I focused on how I help my team win this game even if I had to endure the brunt of the enemy team's focus in the process.
I am a player who will figure out a way to do as much as I can with however little I am given. I did my job and I kept myself focused on doing what my team needs of me. I can handle being the point of pressure that the enemy is trying to focus on.
I do not cower from a strong enemy, I dance with them and force them to work if they wish to kill me.
I look for ways I can impact the game through the little things:
- My W on Sett to allow him to get close enough to Jhin to end up forcing Jhin's Flash
- My defense of Jinx from Blitz and Jhin's R where I first ult her and then I make sure she does not get hit by taking the shot myself
- Or when I use my ult to get Jinx out of a bad fight on the side lane with her GA intact, even if it costs me my life.
I looked for how I use my communication with my team to do things like checking for Graves around the back of the baron pit when we were taking it, I tried to coordinate the team when I saw instances of us just lingering in their base unable to get anything.
I used my split push pressure to get my team Baron by drawing the 2 strongest members of the enemy team to respond to me, and later I used TP to prevent the enemy from pushing and taking Drake which led to our securing soul, I worked with Sett to finish the second nexus tower when I distracted Syndra momentarily.
I felt like at every moment of this game I was having a meaningful and direct impact on the game through my resilience in the face of extreme pressure, and in my ability to make my actions alter the course of the game.
I think that it's also a very powerful example of why so much of what goes into playing well cannot be measured in the stats at the end of the game.
Playing beautiful League of Legends involves a great deal of knowing what are the things that you could do in a given scenario, what are the things that you cannot do in that scenario, and finally, what are the things that you must do in that scenario if you want to be able to influence the outcome of that game.
