I have played several rogue-like games, and so far, "being already dead" is the most legit explanation for a game in which you have to die and try again over and over!
Welcome to Dead Cells, a rogue-like, roguevania, metroidvania, souls-like, or whatever mash-up name you want to call it! Basically, it means that you hack your way through monsters in an ever-changing 2D dungeon, with items to collect, skills to obtain, secrets to discover and bosses to slain. And every time you die, you have to start over from the beginning. Harsh, eh?
