24Do you like liminal spaces? Exploring abandoned office buildings? Maybe peppered with a touch of industrial espionage?
This is Ellingby House, the opening entry from Jepfore Games and initial impressions are pretty great!
This is a totally unapologietic point and click first person adventure game - there is no free movement available here! In that respect it does play very similar to Myst, Riven, or the recent demo from Neyyah.
Jepfore games is a father-son duo, a true pair of indie developers; and we love indie developers on this channel. They credit Myst and Journeyman Project 3 as inspirations for this game, but this obviously isn't a fantasy setting; this is very much grounded in reality, and is a somewhat satire on the 2008 financial crisis.
What really stuck out to me, when I came across this game was that by setting this in the real world, the player will be able to somewhat draw on their real-world understanding applied to the office environment. As physical security of office spaces is a topic that I find very interesting, I was quite intrigued. You'll be finding keys, hacking into people's computers, and trying to go the wrong way up fire escapes to make progress.
Finding out that this is also set in the UK of course, sealed the deal

The once pristine head office of J.R Holder & Sons now suffers from repeated intrusions, neglect, and all the signs of corporate mismanagement. The building should be empty due to much needed renovations, but something is not quite right upon your arrival...

The news gets worse every day. A ransomware trojan is infecting computers globally, a major scandal is erupting in Westminster, and nationwide protests are now a regular occurrence.
Gameplay:
Ellingby House is a first person point-and-click puzzle adventure. You'll explore the building by navigating between high resolution pre-rendered 360° panoramas, picking up and inspecting items, and interacting with mechanisms and computers.
