Looking for a space 4x strategy game, but don't want to play more Stellaris? Well, Galactic Civilizations 4 might just be for you! The game is right around the corner, set to release this summer, but I've been lucky enough to be able to test the beta already. GC4 is the fourth installment in the long-running space 4X series, and has big shoes to fill not only in terms of its own relatives, but because it now competes with a powerhouse in the genre, namely Paradox Development Studios' Stellaris. The question then becomes, can Galactic Civilizations IV hope to compete? What does it bring to the table? Are there any innovations here that might set it apart, and most importantly - is it better than Stellaris? Well, that's what we're here to find out!

Everything is therefore subject to change, and my criticism or praise are reserved for the preview only, not the full game, even though much of what I've mentioned is statistically likely to remain relatively similar for the final game. We can only hope GC4 turns out the best it can be, as everybody wins when the competition is good and all manner of games AND gamers are thriving.
