Final Boss: Darm
Nightmare Mode

As Adol approaches the Lair of the Black Pearl, the source of both magic and demons in the land of Ys, the malevolent Darm finally formally introduces himself. The living epitome of terror and destruction is set on flooding the land in evil and thwarting the plan of the Goddesses, but with the Cleria equipment and the Goddesses' Ring, as well as the prayers of his allies, Adol Christin boldly approaches the final confrontation.

Strobe lights! Seizures! I'll just go ahead and say that yes, Darm causes considerable lag not seen since Jenocres for the PSP and remotejoy, lawd (hear: 3:24 through 3:50).

Like Dark Fact, approaching Darm without the Cleria equipment equipped is suicide. Without the Goddesses' ring, attacking him will also prove to be a fruitless effort. Shield Magic is almost a requirement, as it effectively acts as a second life since all attacks against you drain your magic instead of your health. The Elixir, the rarest and most expensive item in the game, is also recommended as it refills both magic and health if you should happen to run out of the latter once. Darm comes with two forms: an overarching demonic form and then his true form as the Black Pearl itself.

The first form is less menacing that it looks. For one he doesn't use the large sword that it carries (fortunately!). Darm sends out bullets while summoning orbs to home in and attack you. The frustrating thing about this form is that it tends to spend much of its time just out of reach, floating off stage waiting for the orbs to attack you before moving elsewhere. Because of his tendency to bounce away from you and the homing orbs, this form can take a good amount of time. It's easy to get caught between his own bullets and the orbs, but Shield Magic should hold up if you stay smart about your movements.

After his first pink health is removed, Darm will shed his exterior and reveal the Black Pearl, his true form. This form doesn't stay out of reach as much as the first form, but it is much more dangerous because of it. It shoots more standard bullets than the first form, but its two new attacks are what really cause the most pain. His first is multiple streams of yellow bullets which spiral around him. This easily cuts away at your Shield Magic and will destroy your health if you aren't careful or if you get caught in between streams/too close to Darm. The other attack is his giant laser, which is easier to dodge but causes even MORE damage. If you don't have Shield Magic and get caught in it, chances are you will die. Since he strafes with it, it is best to keep distance or get to the other side of him when the particles appear on screen, as it can be difficult to judge the direction he will go. Taking the homing orbs into account, there is a lot to look out for for the second form, but it should be quicker than the first since it boils down to a kill-or-be-killed situation. With enough perseverance and not getting cocky because of the Elixir, Darm will fall.

As Darm is terminated the Black Pearl shatters, and with the source of all magic gone Adol watches as that bestowed upon him by the Goddesses and Priests slowly drains away...
