Boss 6: Dalles
Nightmare Mode

Following the Goddesses' message, Adol makes his way deeper into the Subterranean Canal in hopes of reaching the Ancient Core of Ys itself. As he finds the final passage, he is impeded once last time by none other than the dark sorcerer Dalles, who finally decides to put an end to the hero. WIth the Cleria Sword in hand, Adol doesn't back down.

Ah, Dalles. Even though the battle itself isn't necessarily difficult, this is probably my favorite boss in the game considering how much hell this guy has brought you through (even through the first game, where other media indicates he was basically pulling Dark Fact by the strings and was the one that killed Sara). Then there's the great boss theme "Overdrive" to get you pumped, and to top it all off magic, like he tells you, is ineffective against him and the fight resorts to the classic bump formula for the first time since the first game. Nothing like some retro payback.

The battle itself is fairly simple: he teleports around the field and shoots a large number of energy bits, as well as having 4 rocks/meteors circling him. The bits don't do a massive amount of damage, but they can be hard to dodge. If you're lucky enough you can hit him 3 times before he teleports again, though most of the time you will be limited to 1 or 2.

If you don't hit him after he shoots the bits, he fires a more directed attack at you and then shoots the bits again. So as much as you want to spend time dodging and waiting, this battle forces you to really get in his face before he decimates you with his secondary attack. As for the rocks, they love to troll and stay on the screen a few seconds after he teleports, ramming into you when you least suspect them. Wearing the Cleria Ring parries a large number of his attacks, making it easier to get in and attack, and being the proper level turns this from nearly impossible to an even match. Definitely a very fun fight.

With Dalles FINALLY taken down, Adol proceeds to the Core of Ys itself in order to vanquish the source of demons in both Ys and Esteria.
