Today we’re diving into Ys III: Wanderers from Ys, the most radical departure in the early Ys series — and one of the most debated entries among fans. Released on the TurboGrafx-CD in 1991, this version brought the Falcom classic to life with anime cutscenes, full voice acting, and one of the best soundtracks to ever hit the CD format.
Once again, you take up the sword as Adol Christin, the red-haired adventurer, who now journeys to the troubled town of Redmont to uncover a dark secret threatening the land of Felghana. But unlike the top-down action of Ys I & II, Ys III switches things up completely with side-scrolling action-RPG gameplay — more akin to Zelda II or Valis than classic Ys.
