Ys X Demo FIRST-TIMER RUN 🌊 | Voice Acting Missteps & Lighthouse Boss!
0Strap in for a genuine newbie plunge into Ys X: Nordics! I fired up the demo only to discover the cinematic, fully voiced prologue sets expectations the rest of the game can’t quite match—many NPC lines (and most of Adol’s own dialogue) revert to silent text. It’s jarring enough that I found myself listening attentively whenever a voice kicked in and skimming whenever one didn’t.
Beyond the VO roller-coaster, the early “choice” prompts feel weighty but, so far, just tweak flavor text. I’m curious if the full game will pay those decisions off later or keep them cosmetic. Gameplay-wise, I managed to unlock the flashy Double Slash—the first real taste of the duo combat system—before the Lighthouse Dungeon boss taught me a hard lesson in telegraph reading. I’ll be back for revenge!
Despite the uneven presentation, the agile combat, slick Mana String traversal and promise of sailing the Obelia Gulf have me eager for launch day. I’ll be picking up the full release next month for my weekly game-play series. Fingers crossed Falcom sprinkles in more voice work (or better balances expectations) before then.
