A longplay of Yume Penguin Monogatari for the NES.

Yume Penguin Monogatari was developed and published by Konami in 1991. The story is about a pudgy penguin named Penta whose girlfriend, Penko, disapproves of his eating habit. She demands he get in shape or she'll dump him for a slimmer, more suave penguin named Ginji. However, Ginji attempts to sabotage Penta's efforts to lose weight by feeding him as Penko's patience wears thin.

The game is a side-scrolling platformer with a rather unique mechanic in that the goal is not only to reach the end of the level in a certain amount of time, but also to stay below a certain weight as you do. Failure to meet either of those objectives results in being dumped by Penko, followed by a game over. The game has a style recognizable with other Konami titles of its time, as well as having colorful, detailed graphics and catchy, memorable music. It's a pretty fun game, but it's quite short and rather easy. I'd gladly play a sequel, if there ever was one.
