Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures was developed by FreakZone Games and published by ScrewAttack Entertainment in 2013. It features the Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN or just "the Nerd") and other characters from Cinemassacre's series of videos who are playing a "shitty video game" when it suddenly sucks them into its world Cheetahmen-style. The Nerd must fight his way through flaming laser sharks, unicorns with flowery diarrhea, and an abundance of literal crap to find his friends and help them escape the virtual nightmare.

The game is a side-scrolling 2D action platformer with graphics reminiscent of the NES and Atari 2600. The environments, enemies, bosses, and power-ups are filled with numerous references to the AVGN's long history of videos and the plethora of games he's played in them. In addition to playing as the Nerd himself, finding his friends allows the player to utilize their unique abilities to navigate the game's obstacles and find secrets to aid them. A love letter to the pixelated games from the days before CDs, it is a test of skill, timing, and patience. But with precise, responsive controls and levels that are as fluently designed as they are thematic, the only one to blame for failure is the player. The result is a game that's challenging yet highly satisfying to complete.
