A longplay of The Lion King for the Super Nintendo.

The Lion King video game was developed by Westwood Studios (of Command and Conquer fame before the company was bought by EA in 1998, who subsequently shut them down in 2003) and published by Virgin Interactive in 1994. The plot mirrors the Disney movie, in which Simba, a lion cub prince, falls victim to his devious uncle's plot to seize the throne Hamlet style. Simba must escape Scar's minions and avenge his murdered father.

The game is a basic side-scrolling platformer, like most video games based on family movies and television shows of the time. However, after Simba becomes an adult halfway through, it adds combat elements to the game complete with special techniques for fighting enemies. It is sort of a sibling game to Aladdin for the Sega Genesis, another title by Virgin Interactive, which shared much of the same gameplay, obstacles, art style, and methods of level design. Though the difficulty alternately spikes from easy to difficult from level to level, it's still a solid game that's remembered fondly by many today.
