Is this the fourth time I've covered Fairy Fountain? I lost count.

Yes it is, indeed, my fourth cover of the Fairy Fountain theme. To be fair, it IS my favorite piece of Zelda music from the whole series. And when the Breath of the Wild version came dancing daintily through my headphones for the first time, I had no choice but to cover it.

The arrangement, in particular, was really tough for me to nail down and went through several iterations. Forget the crazy piano part with ridiculous polyrhythms in the left hand. The original is so delicate, so fragile and ephemeral that interpreting it was not an easy task. All in all everything finally clicked and I think it turned out nicely.

Most of my time was spent learning that silly piano part. I eventually got it down, but I did decide to record the left and right hands separately because I wanted more control over the piano in the mix. So the video was recorded after the fact. I can play it, though, I swear!!

Then I chose to go with some very light violin to accompany the piano. I used VST so it's definitely a little fake-sounding, but I tried to use them modestly so it wouldn't be too grating. The bass guitar seemed like a good fit to fill out the bottom of the track. And to top it off, I went with the lapsteel guitar to play behind the piano.

It's just such a gosh darn lovely piece of music and I'm really glad that I figured out an arrangement for it =' )

Also; for some really weird reason I had this bizarre vision of a thunderstorm/windstorm happening in the background of this track, so on the last cycle I put in some ambient wind/thunder noise. I ripped it straight from the EarthBound .spc file and just threw it in there with some EQ and a splash of reverb. Originally, it can be heard on this track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BCKfwaP_w4). Was that a weird choice? Can't say for sure why I was inspired to do that.

But anyhoo, thanks for watching, everyone. More stuff on the way!
