Zelda II - The Adventure of Link Video Walkthrough - Part 2
Part 2 of Zelda II, where we storm the first palace!\n\nCommentary:\n0:01 - The palaces are the dungeons. The goal is to clear them all. This is the first and easiest.\n0:11 - These guys are annoying. No XP, you lose XP if you get hit. \n0:34 - Stalfos is easy. Crouch and stab to get around his shield. You can block his sword if you need to. Later on, they start jumping around. They're still not too tough.\n0:45 - Keys open locked doors. You need one for each door. Stab them to pick them up.\n1:21 - There's that aforementioned door.\n1:25 - These are Bubbles. They don't do much damage, but getting hit by them costs you magic. They take a -lot- of hits, but they're worth 50 XP, so they're worth killing at this early stage if you have the patience...but not in this room because of the damn hopping things. You can stab them, then run through them to pass by them.\n1:46 - We'll come back for that elevator later. \n1:51 - Once you can level up all 3 abilities, you have to choose one, you can't cancel. We want Attack, so let's take it.\n2:08 - Say hello to the only palace fairy you'll see for a veeeeeery long time.\n2:42 - I don't know what these things are called, but they're irritating. Find a spot to slip through the maces he tosses, then get up close and stab him to death. Generally a good idea to cast Shield before enemies like this one.\n2:58 - I decide I still want attack. It's expensive, but worth it.\n2:59 - This is a Red Jar. It refills your magic. When one of these drops, it's usually a good time to cast a ton of magic first. Since we've already cast the only spell we know, and it's still in effect...well, just stab the jar. Red Jars are hidden all over the place in these statues...but sometimes the statues come to life and attack. Be wary.\n3:56 - We begin stabbing...\n4:26 - 30 seconds later, we're 50 XP richer. Yay.\n5:12 - Enemies only drop 2 types of P-bags. If the enemy is worth less than 50 XP, you get a 50 XP bag. If the enemy is worth 50 or more, you get a 200 XP bag. Magic Jars are the same way...low XP ones drop blue jars, high XP ones drop red ones.\n5:18 - This bag isn't for the faint of heart, but it's not hard to get.\n5:51 - Niiiice...\n5:55 - And now, the dreaded Ironknuckle. You can go toe to toe with them, alternating high and low while blocking his sword attacks, he blocks yours, and eventually you get enough hits to win...eventually you do get the hang of it. Or you can jump-attack them. By jumping, you fake them into blocking low, then you strike them high. Makes them a lot easier.\n6:06 - I need the health...so I grab the Life-Up. Sometimes the choices are made based upon your immediate needs. If you desperately need magic, you'll probably take that Magic-up.\n6:12 - The Candle, the first item. This lets you see in the dark. The caves are now lit up. This isn't required, but if you're good enough to beat the game without it, you're certainly way too good to be reading this. \n6:56 - Never hurts to check...\n7:32 - The attack upgrade shaved a whopping 8 seconds off our bubble-killing time! Bubbles respawn, so if you were so inclined, you could farm these early on for some good XP.\n7:51 - That one I went toe-to-toe with. I usually do, but the jumping trick is good to remember. Later Ironknuckles are much harder to beat without it.\n8:42- That curtain means "Cast Shield". Boss fight coming.\n8:45 - This is the stupidly named "Horsehead". I remember him having a much cooler Japanese name, I just can't remember what it is. Anyways, easy. Jump, stab in head, back away from mace. Your sword should knock him out of reach so he can't counterattack. And this goes for ALL bosses: Cast Shield. It effectively doubles your life bar, and you'll probably need it.\n9:12 - Er...oops. This can happen if you're too defensive against him. Be aggressive. Horsehead is, surprisingly, tougher than some of the later bosses.\n9:42 - Gah, that was pathetic...\n9:54 - We place the crystal in the statue...this refills our life and magic, and runs our XP up the the next level...which just so happens to be 1,000 XP. I did plan this. Remember this and abuse it at the end of every palace. 4 attack at the end of Palace 1 is -very- good.
